Dr. Zafirides Chronic Pain: A Genetic Risk Factor Is Identified

Peter Zafirides

Physician
Hi Everyone,

I thought you would be very interested in this new study on chronic pain out of the University of North Carolina:

http://www.thehealthymind.com/2013/...ses-pain-a-genetic-risk-factor-is-identified/

Researchers at UNC have found that chronic pain resulting from a traumatic event has a biological and genetic basis. The result are absolutely fascinating! It's worth the read, but let me leave you with this quote from the study's senior author, Dr. Samuel McLean, an anesthesiologist:

“Our study findings indicate that mechanisms influencing chronic pain development may be related to the stress response, rather than any specific injury caused by the traumatic event."

Yeah, no kidding...

Kindly,
Dr. Z
