Ankylosing spondylitis

Discussion in 'Support Subforum' started by All things are possible, Oct 18, 2023.

  1. I was 11 years old and started having right hip pain and leg pain out of the blue one night, my mum said it was growing pains. The next day I couldn't walk without having excruciating muscle spasms that made me cry with the pain. It took well over 3 years to diagnose me with Ankylosing spondylitis. I was told I have the specific gene for AS and it was also confirmed by x ray, mri, blood tests etc. That was over 37 years ago I've had pain ever since. I've had lots of other diagnoses over the years, osteoarthritis in both hips, fibromyalgia, dry eyes, crohn's disease, endometriosis, vulva vestibulitis, TMJD, I had a tooth pulled and the pain in the area remained for years. I had Covid in March then contracted double pneumonia 5 weeks later. I've had a massive flare of Ankylosing spondylitis/osteoarthritis, I'm housebound and walking with a cane. I'm experiencing muscle spasms in my right leg like did when I was 11 years old but this time they are not disappearing. This is the first time this has happened, I'm usually in pain all the time (mainly back, neck, shoulder pain) but very active go dog walking twice a day, pilates, gym, work. I have the odd week off work with back spasms but usually take valium and it gets me back up and running again and I'm back to work within the week. I think since I've been off work for 5 months and can't get out of the house I've been obsessing more about my health. I'm also on immunosuppressive injections for the AS so there is some fear with going back to the outside world in case I pick up Covid/pneumonia again. I'm also on a stage 2 warning for absence at work for the first time in nearly 27 years so if I can't go back k to work soon I will lose my job due to ill health. I just read about TMS and watched some youtube videos with Steve O and Dr Sarno in the last few days. Since I've made the mind body connection the pain and spasms in my right leg have doubled in intensity and this is even happening on rest. I did have a steroid injection in my hip joint yesterday. Has anyone else with a diagnosis of Ankylosing spondylitis early in life found out it was TMS in the end. I have a 37 year cycle of pain to break as my brain will be hardwired to feel pain since a very early age. Any help advice would be very much appreciated. I'm using the distraction technique, I believe in Jesus so reading healing scriptures, listening to praise songs and I'm going to start journaling as I had a hard childhood with a lot of responsibility as my father was an alcoholic and verbally abusive putting me down at every opportunity and constantly saying no one will want me and I will amount to nothing. My mum was very caring, loving but suffered a lot with anxiety especially health anxiety obviously due to the situation she was in with 2 kids and living with an alcoholic and moving from Ireland so she had no family in the area expect her sister who was married with 3 kids herself. Any advice to a newbie would be greatly appreciated especially anyone with a diagnosis of Ankylosing spondylitis. Thank you ❤️

Also on Jenn’s channel was Dr. Hanscom who is doing a lot of work with inflammation, inflammatory and autoimmune clients and the mind/body science of how their progression can at least be stopped. He talks more about inflammation and its relation to anger and fear in blog posts on his website.
