I just began the program. I am very familiar with Sarno, as I read his books about 10 years ago. I will say, I have had tons of success in just forgetting about things. Usually pain or some weird symptom will come up, it will stress me out to no end, I will obsess, etc., and burn myself out. I haven't every really done much journalling or a formal program, but I do fully believe in the TMS theory.
Three years ago a coworker of mine lost a lot of weight. I asked her what she was doing, and she said she had acid reflux, and it was so bad she couldn't eat, had lost about 20 pounds. I felt so badly for her, but I was a bit worried, thinking now that that is in my brain, I can't unknow that, and my mind will hold onto it until a later time that I would get acid reflux. And get it I did.
I've had bad symptoms for just over a year, but probably had it longer. It is the silent kind, rarely heartburn, mostly chronic sore throat, voice issues, swollen nasal passages, stuffy ears. I went to an allergist and had every test done. Negative to everything except dust mites. I went to an ENT, moderate acid reflux, regular recommendations.
My husband had bad acid reflux years ago due to poor diet and weight gain. He went keto, lost weight, cleared up his acid reflux, and never looked back. He is convinced it will be the same for me.
My diet was never that bad, I am not overweight. I have a cup of coffee a day. I don't eat before bed. I think I am perimenopause, so there's that, and I have done a few rounds of antibiotics due to strep throat my kids brought home, but I just don't see that this should be this bad.
The noticeable symptoms started last year when my in-laws were visiting (for three months) and I found out my father-in-law was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. It never went away but got better and worse. I didn't know what it was for a long time. It was terrible this summer, but is that because we again had another three-month visit or was it just going this direction anyway?
I would love to believe acid reflux can be caused by stress/tension. I am an extremely stressed person by nature, and due to a move across country three years ago and change of job, I am sometimes amazed that I am alive I am under so much stress (much of it self-imposed). But I don't see much about acid reflux being mentioned in the TMS literature. A few times here and there, but nothing that calms my mind. Of course my mind goes to esophageal cancer, etc. If there are any kind words or thoughts either way, it would be much appreciated.
Thank you for reading.
