My Story
Three years ago I developed foot pain followed by severe back pain so after about 5 months had an MRI which showed a minor spondylolisthesis and an indeterminate signal from somewhere That last point filled me with worry as I thought they must have missed something! I was a High school teacher of History and my knowledge of human biology is pitiful !The consultant said try Pilates. The doctor said take 2 types of medication. After 3months I felt a whole lot worse and my previously active life seemed to be over. I read up about the medication and decided to reduce it to a minimum. I visited an acupuncturist, tried the Alexander Technique, yoga, Pilates, physiotherapy, the Bowen technique,Tai Chi, hypnotherapy ,mindfulness and meditation. All helped a bit and I met a whole lot of lovely people . Then after a year I read Dr Sarno and hope dawned I stopped all medication from the doctor.I did have another MRI this time a different consultant said no dodgy signals just the minor spondylolisthesis which couldn't cause all the moving about symptoms. I read all about TMS by the various experts and attended a TMS weekend event. I saw I was just so typical and had had so many of the TMS symptoms over the decades and could connect them all to distressing or anxious times especially the events of 3 years ago I am now back to previous activity levels and my family are no longer worried about me. However I still do get muscle tension which isn't pleasant, but I am following all the TMS strategies and they all help. I am so grateful for all the insights that TMS people have provided and for this site xx - Loading...
