What if symptoms are not caused by anger or emotions?

One thing that people with chronic illness tend to do, when they don't enjoy something that seems to be working for other people is it try harder. Healthier people tend to just go f--- it and don't do it. Having said this though... I made what I thought was a full recovery from CFS this way...

Feeling worse after doing compassionate enquiry (Gabor mate)

When you feel like that, try punching a pillow or the wall or yelling (in private). Then stop and see how you feel, if you feel more relaxed or you have more energy.

    Mommy is Killing me.

It was a complicated thing, basically I lost support from one parent (aging father), and the other one (narcissist mother), who had long promised me to help , saw that I had 'recovered my health', and said 'no help for you any more, get a job'. The main issue was that the healer I had worked...

    Mommy is Killing me.

I very blatantly fear retaliation. I got well back in 2008 and after three years I experienced very sudden, severe and devastating retaliation, mostly financial. I wound up living with barely enough money for groceries, having to save up to buy a cheap t-shirt, traumatized, isolated etc. I...

    Yoga helped?

I have found that Fiona Agombar, who is a yoga teacher and yoga therapist I believe, and specialized in CFS, Long Covid, burnout, etc, is a really fantastic resource. She has books and videos on YouTube. She does not recommend that people with these conditions just jump into regular yoga. Her...

    Yoga helped?

Those are great, Bloodmoon. If I had better access to a pool I would go swimming, very gentle and no worries about injuring yourself or making anything worse.

    Exhausted, I need some help

This is also my problem 100% I don't think you need to be translating the symptom into a thought like that. Whether it's to think about it or the report it to someone else.... You want to be feeling for the purposes of feeling and accepting for their own sake, the idea is to lean in.

    Exhausted, I need some help

I think you need to let go of the idea that 'deep commitment' and 'working very hard' are the way to heal. Enjoyment, relaxation and acceptance are.

The mind/body revolution: how the division between ‘mental’ and ‘physical’ illness fails us all

In Mickel therapy they have you respond by acting on your emotions, in socially acceptable ways and without hurting anyone. If you can't figure out what action to take, then you just identify what you would do 'in an ideal world'. So, if the emotion is anger, you are supposed to stand up for...

The mind/body revolution: how the division between ‘mental’ and ‘physical’ illness fails us all

The way they explain it in Mickel therapy makes a lot of sense to me. They say that when you are in a situation that is not working for you, your system will 'send you' emotions first to try and get you to take some kind of action. If the emotions are not getting your attention and getting you...

    The Transformative Power of Journaling

The main purpose of writing in a journal is to vent, to get your stress and feelings out of your system so they are not making you sick. I find it kind of helpful, but sometimes it does seem like it's reinforcing my stress instead of getting rid of it. There are other things one can do for self...

Feeling frustrated about the recent NYT article

IMO it's not purely an issue of profits. Doctors write sick notes for workers who are off the job, evaluate who can go on disability benefits, etc etc. Medicine has as strong aspect of population management and ties with government and insurance companies are unavoidable. You can't have your dr...

    journal about personality traits?

I'm glad I'm not the only person who can't write about personality as a 'topic'. I think you are talking about personality as like very long term issues, patterns of feeling. So maybe I could write like 'I always feel that _____", "I always feel I have to _________". It is a start, thanks...
