Thanks Adam for the detailed response! Gives me plenty to think about.
When I first read Sarno's book he keeps reinforcing that TMS comes from repressed rage which never resonated with me, but pain coming from a danger/fear response makes total sense.
After going through the education program...
Hi all, just for a bit of background I've had a chronic wrist pain for about 7 years but only started treating it as TMS since I discovered this forum 3 months ago. I worked through the education program and I'm definitely improved, but not pain-free.
I've been reading a few books on TMS too...
I realised I never wrote about finishing this program and where I'm at now. I wasn't doing the program exercises religiously every day but I did start back in the middle of March, so I'm well and truly past week 6 now!
What's changed for me? When I went into this I was having horrible wrist...
Thanks both for the advice! I'm glad to hear that this kind of brain training is going to make deep and lasting changes.
@BloodMoon I like the idea of just doing something each day even if small, because yes when I'm particularly busy and strapped for time I've just not done any TMS exercises...
I'm in a very similar boat - I work in games and over time developed what I thought was a chronic RSI pain in my mouse hand, so I know how much it sucks. But you're already doing far better than I was just by being here - it took me many years to even find out about TMS.
If it's any...
I've been super busy with a critical deadline so have been putting off these recovery program exercises, reading TMS related books, all the things that I had made part of my daily routine in my first few weeks, and the effects are showing. Yes, I'm also at the desk a lot more - doing the...
I actually like that suggestion! I didn't know about that movie but knew there were other TMS related docos out there and I had the same thought, that maybe if we watched together it would really help my partner to understand things. I can see how being treated like there is something wrong with...
Had some more wins this week. Before coming down with an (unrelated) illness I was at the gym and some bench presses which is something I haven't done in yonks. Hurt a little, but nothing lingering and afterwards it felt great just to know that I could do it.
I started reading Alan Gordon's book...
Right, it does feel good and validating to do these things that I would have expected to have excruciating consequence actually not be so bad at all. That said, I'm still easing into it. I used to love doing box fit but had to give it up almost a year ago because it would always make pain worse...
I never had the expectation of being cured after a week, but the adjustments I've made have led to some small wins.
I'm not letting the pain bother me. It's still there, but now I'm not worrying about if it will get better or worse. I've also ditched the wrist strap I used to wear while working...
