    Victim Mentality

@TG957 thank you for that. It resonated. As a father, spouse, HR professional, musician, and golfer, I feel unfulfilled because I hide from my failures, rather than learn from them. TMS adds to it…confirmation that I am broken, and less than.

    Victim Mentality

I really appreciate the support here, but I’m going to vent a bit. It seems like anytime things aren’t going well: 1. You aren’t doing the work (journaling, etc) 2. You’re doing too much work. You need to take a break and relax. 3. You haven’t fully accepted the TMS diagnosis 4. Stop thinking...

    Victim Mentality

After months of online TMS coaching, meditation, journaling, and counseling, I am still suffering. I can no longer work to support my family, nor do any activities that I enjoy. I wish I had better news to report, but I am getting to the point of considering opiates. It really hurts to admit...

Can a Stiff Upper Back only in the Morning be TMS?

Thank you! If you have any advice to share on handling stubborn issues, I’m all ears. I have a few threads I’ve started.

Can a Stiff Upper Back only in the Morning be TMS?

Yes, I accepted it as TMS after I tried the mattress and exercises. I tend to do well at dealing with new symptoms once I recognize them as TMS. I have long term symptoms that are more stubborn, but that back pain from sleeping resolved once I stopped worrying about a physical issue.

Can a Stiff Upper Back only in the Morning be TMS?

I had this type of pain for several months. I would wake up in the wee hours with mid/upper back pain and not be able to get back to sleep. It felt different from my usual TMS symptoms. I tried a new mattress and some abdominal strengthening but it didn’t help. Eventually it resolved on its...

    Guilt/Explaining

@LittleWildflower first off, I’m so happy you are getting relief. Don’t feel guilty about that after suffering so much. It takes so much courage to do what you have done. It is hard to explain TMS to people who haven’t experienced it. I can climb a ladder and clean the gutters on my house with...

    Victim Mentality

@JanAtheCPA I did the ACEs test and scored 3. I’m very humbled by the support you have all provided. I was having such an awful day and reading the comments from today gave me a little boost. I don’t know what helped in particular, and I don’t want to even speculate. I’m going to take the...

    Victim Mentality

I have a really difficult time meditating. I have to reposition every 30 seconds or so with the intensity of pain. I was also close to going to the ER a few times because I started worrying about my breathing while meditating and the idea of it being a deliberate vs automatic activity. Obviously...

    Victim Mentality

@Cactusflower I appreciate the insight. I think I've spent most of my life grasping at external things. I suppose that is the problem, but I just don't know what to do about it.

    Victim Mentality

Thank you all for the advice. I really, truly want to live without pain and fear, and do the things I love like exercise, music, and travel. I want to live with optimism and hope, rather than always worrying about the worst case scenario. I want to be a TMS success story so I can help other...

    Victim Mentality

@JanAtheCPA no, I have not looked into the ACEs test. Yes, I still work for my father’s company, and I don’t enjoy the job most days. But I make enough to support my family and have flexibility to take time off when I’m not feeling well. I could not maintain a job anywhere else due to missed...

    Victim Mentality

@JanAtheCPA I quoted you from another thread. “as long as you see yourself as a victim of your past and current circumstances, you will not be able to achieve any level of healing or peace.” This speaks to my situation. I’ve had pain for 20+ years. A lot of my life feels like a compromise...

    Nothing is working

Sorry to hear. I can relate. I have symptoms that my doctor calls Fibro. I try to ignore that term but it’s not easy. I played sports in HS and college. I had plenty of injuries but never worried about them. This diffuse, aching, burning pain is something totally different though. It’s just...
