I'm a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia. My practice, The Woods Counselling Co., works exclusively with chronic illness, chronic pain and trauma, virtually with clients across Canada. Clinically I work with Pain Reprocessing Therapy, the Safe and Sound Protocol, DBT skills and pacing.
I'm also Interprofessional Co-Chair of the Canadian Pain Society and have published in the Canadian Journal of Pain.
And I'm a patient. I live with several chronic pain conditions and have had occipital nerve stimulation surgery, so I've spent a lot of time on both sides of the room. Most of what I think about clinically comes out of the gap between the two.
At my worst I was using a wheelchair. I'm now working full time and functional — not symptom-free, but living a life I recognize. That distinction matters to me, and it's most of what I have to offer anyone who is earlier in it than I am.
