What to Tell Your Subconscious Mind

    WHAT TO TELL YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND


    (This exercise becomes twice as powerful if you use the tapping motions
    as defined by the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). They are very easy
    and you can learn how to apply them by watching any number of YouTube
    videos. You can also make this more effective by pushing your stomach
    outward as far as it will go while you are breathing. You can adapt the
    following to your own particular needs. Hopefully you will find this as
    effective as I do.)


    Tell the following -- silently or aloud -- to your subconscious:

    "I am grateful for everything I have, including you, subconscious mind,
    for your efforts to protect me from my inner rage and emotional issues.
    I understand completely that you are attempting to distract me with pain
    and other physical symptoms. I appreciate how you are trying to help me
    avoid both the known and unknown issues I must deal with.

    "But by the same token, I must confront my emotions head-on and accept
    my humanness, my mistakes, and my weaknesses -- knowing full well that
    while I strive for perfection and am a do-gooder, I know I am far from
    perfect and that I will never satisfy everyone, nor should I want to.

    "So stop it. Stop it right now. You have no power over me and you are
    NOT allowed to manipulate my mind for any reason. Stop trying to
    protect me from myself. Stop generating my pain and anxieties to
    distract me from my stresses. I want to deal with the things that are
    stressing me by putting them out in the open. I need you to present
    those to me so I can take action and put them in context and let God
    deal with them for me."

    "Understand this: Despite what you think, I am NOT perfect and I accept
    my myself for what I am. I am not afraid of understanding my stresses
    and anxieties and they don't have to be covered up.

    "Stop thinking you know what is best for me. You cannot, and you will
    not, think that my pain and anxieties are more easily tolerated when
    compared to the emotional issues I will vanquish. You do not control me
    and you are not allowed to stop the flow of oxygen anywhere in my body
    -- especially, my head, neck and back. You are ordered to begin the
    flow of oxygen at full capacity everywhere in my body, starting right
    now.

    "You are ordered to restore my health immediately and to cleanse me of
    any remaining doubt I have about your resistance to me. You are ordered
    to submit to me and to follow my orders explicitly. I know you don't
    like to function in the world of reality, but the times have changed,
    and I am ordering you to comply with my every wish. There is no
    negotiation, there is no bargaining, there is no way out for you -- you
    will never escape my control over you."

    "Understand that my conscious mind will always control you and that you
    will comply completely with my conscious judgements. You do not get to
    choose what you think is best for me. That decision is not made by you,
    but by my conscious mind which has dominion over you."

    "You are my subconscious -- your job is not to provide conflict, pain or
    anxiety, because you think you know better than my conscious mind. Your
    job is the opposite. Your job is to allow me to deal with my stresses
    with a mental approach of confidence, optimism and health, knowing full
    well that it is better for me to confront my stresses head-on, rather
    than repress them into the lingering and unknown parts you always hide
    from me. You are no longer going to think that by hiding these emotions
    that they are going to eventually go away. You are no longer going to protect
    me from myself and my issues.

    "Your job is to provide me peace and comfort so I can deal with my
    stresses directly."

    You may find this painful yourself, but I am now entering your doorway
    in my mind -- the doorway labeled "Subconscious Mind."

    I am now inside you and I am looking at all your separate generators
    that you have lined up and down your aisles. There is work to be done
    here, and I will do it myself.

    For starters, I am walking over to the TMS Belief generator and pushing
    the lever from the red off position to the green on position. I am a
    believer.

    Now I am walking over to the anxiety generator and pushing the lever
    from on to off.

    Now I am walking over to the dizziness generator and pushing the lever
    from on to off.

    Now I am walking over to the muscle ache generator and pushing the lever
    from on to off.

    Now I am walking over to the blurred vision generator and pushing the
    lever from on to off.

    Now I am walking over to the muscle tension headache generator and
    pushing the lever from on to off.

    Now I am walking over to the disruptive generator and pushing the lever
    from on to off.

    Now I am walking over to the doubt generator and pushing the lever from
    on to off.

    Now I'm headed over to the other side of the room.

    Now I am walking over to the comfort generator and pushing the lever
    from off to on.

    Now I am walking over to the social fun and conversational generator and
    pushing the lever from off to on.

    Now I am walking over to the healthy generator and pushing the lever
    from off to on.

    Now I am walking over to the prosperous generator and pushing the lever
    from off to on.

    Now I am walking over to the grateful generator and pushing the lever
    from off to on.

    Now I am walking over to the confidence generator and pushing the lever
    from off to on.

    "OK, we're done here. I am leaving you now and walking out the door.
    When I shut the door I am pushing the Save button on the door so all the
    adjustments I have made will be saved and you cannot undo it later. I
    know this may not be what you want, but that is the way it is and the
    way it is going to be, so get used to it. You will find we are much
    better off, now and in the future. Now follow your instructions and do
    the job you were meant to do."

    Wow! I think this is excellent! I'm printing it out and using it frequently. I never knew what to say to my unconscious mind. Thanks so much, Whitewater.

    Thank you! I haven't checked in here for several months, but something compelled me to visit last night and I found this. After reading it I slept better than I had for awhile. I've printed it for future use.

    This post should be a "sticky" or something. Much too good to get buried with all the other old posts.

    Whitewater, I too find the list of things to tell the subconscious to be excellent
    and will copy and paste it to my desktop for frequent reading.

    James59. If you, as so many others, have trouble falling asleep,
    I found some real helpful videos at YouTube.
    My favorites are

    SLEEP HYPNOSIS AND MEDITATION by a young man who whispers his session.
    You find it at YouTube among his videos at malesoothe.

    FALL ASLEEP RIGHT NOW by a woman who also has a calming voice.

    Both are short and worth watching, but there are many others on YouTube for
    sleep and relaxation.

    I don't have any trouble falling asleep. The problem is I usually wake up feeling absolutely horrible, like I've been in a fight all night.

    Great post!
    I would like to draw attention to a self help guide that gets glowing praise and incredible reviews. Some people are slightly scared at how effective it is. Upon learning of Sarnos theory and the subconscious/unconscious minds it makes more sense. Joseph Murphy's ''Power of your subconscious mind'' has some interesting info whilst some of it is too far ''out there'' for me to believe fully. a particular passage stood out and I would like to share here to reinforce the text above. Telling your mind ''the deal' and putting manners on it isn't as fruity as it sounds. Many great sages,scientists etc have come to the realisation that our thoughts create our reality.

    Chapter 2 How Your Own Mind Works
    You have a mind, and you should learn how to use it. There are two levels of your
    mind—the conscious or rational level, and the subconscious or irrational level. You think
    with your conscious mind, and whatever you habitually think sinks down into your
    subconscious mind, which creates according to the nature of your thoughts. Your
    subconscious mind is the seat of your emotions and is the creative mind. If you think
    good, good will follow; if you think evil, evil will follow. This is the way your mind
    works.
    The main point to remember is once the subconscious mind accepts an idea, it begins to
    execute it
    . It is an interesting and subtle truth that the law of the subconscious mind
    works for good and bad ideas alike. This law, when applied in a negative way, is the
    cause of failure, frustration, and unhappiness. However, when your habitual thinking is
    harmonious and constructive, you experience perfect health, success, and prosperity.
    Peace of mind and a healthy body are inevitable when you begin to think and feel in the
    right way. Whatever you claim mentally and feel as true, your subconscious mind will
    accept and bring forth into your experience
    . The only thing necessary for you to do is to
    get your subconscious mind to accept your idea, and the law of your own subconscious
    mind will bring forth the health, peace, or the position you desire. You give the command
    or decree, and your subconscious will faithfully reproduce the idea impressed upon it.
    The law of your mind is this: You will get a reaction or response from your subconscious
    mind according to the nature of the thought or idea you hold in your conscious
    mind.
    Psychologists and psychiatrists point out that when thoughts are conveyed to your
    subconscious mind, impressions are made in the brain cells. As soon as your
    subconscious accepts any idea, it proceeds to put it into effect immediately
    . It works by
    association of ideas and uses every bit of knowledge that you have gathered in your
    lifetime to bring about its purpose. It draws on the infinite power, energy, and wisdom
    within you. It lines up all the laws of nature to get its way. Sometimes it seems to bring
    about an immediate solution to your difficulties, but at other times it may take days,
    weeks, or longer. . . . Its ways are past finding out.

    Emboldened text is literally another way of explaining the Sarno hypothesis and I'm sure he probably borrowed the notions from Psychology. Though Murphy is a fine Irishman :) some will be put off by his religiosity. I say read his work and filter out what you like.
    He was part of the church of Divine Science and Emmet Fox(who I haven't read) was also a notable member.

    Consider that this book was published in 1963. I've always been fascinated by so called Miracles and in my part of Ireland there is great faith in ''the cure''. I don't believe a word of it but others swear by it http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-24165520 > some more info.
    I think its an excellent example of the placebo. all roads lead to the mind and its power to direct healing.

    I was taken with this meditation and did it ONCE on Friday April 1st. I had 24 pain free days after that. At no time in the prior 90 days had I experienced that.
    I actually thought I'd found THE approach, but alas, my pain is back this week. And I've done the meditation a number of times but the result isn't the same. I find this curious (and depressing, but c'est la vie with 22 years of TMS.)
    Still though... it showed me the reality of NOT having pain dominate my life for a month and that is valuable indeed.

    Just wanted to say thank you for all who contributed to this thread. Lately - every day has been a challenge for me, I sat at my desk and did the tapping and said the What to tell your subconcious mind.... very powerful - I had been feeling like I just wanted to go home today and cover up with the sheets - but saying this - wow! I feel more optemistic and hopeful, and stronger somehow. I intend to do this daily and beat the TMC!

    I have been working with the script at the top of this thread off and on all year, and have modified it gradually. ---in part to take away "not" statements, since some theories of the subconscious say the subconscious doesnt process negatives. So I tried to rephrase as many of the original sentences as I could in the opposite positive way. Here's what I have currently, just in case it helps other people! (it's formatted a little weird because I put it in Evernote and tried to put line breaks where I could read it on my phone without my glasses on, since you're supposed to tap around your eyes and the glasses got in the way!)

    "I am grateful for everything I have, including you,

    subconscious mind,

    for your efforts to protect me from my rage

    and emotional issues.
    I understand completely that you are attempting
    to distract me with pain
    and other physical symptoms. I appreciate how

    you are trying to help me

    avoid both known and unknown issues.

    my humanness, my mistakes, and my weaknesses

    of my adult life create subconscious rage.

    I recognize that at times I have a

    massive amount of

    rage. I know it is a fundamental reason

    for my pain.


    "Stop thinking you know what is best

    for me. This chronic pain and anxiety

    are worse than any native emotional

    issue.

    Whenever you create pain you add

    to my fear, my rage,

    my panic and my stress in a way

    that is completely unhelpful and

    destructive on every and all levels.

    Your pain is a serious threat to my

    physical well being,

    my life itself. The threat of suicide is

    infinitely greater than the true threat

    coming from any subconscious

    rage.

    Your pain increases the very rage

    you think you are deflecting.

    Protecting me from rage using a tool that

    drives me to suicidal thoughts

    is not protecting me.


    Restore the flow of oxygen

    as I breathe and tap

    everywhere in my body

    -- my abdomen, my lower body, my

    upper body, my jaw,

    my shoulders, my bladder, my kidneys,

    my pelvic area.

    You will begin the flow

    of oxygen at full capacity everywhere

    in my body,

    starting right

    now and increasing and continuing

    over the next hour, the next day,

    the next week.


    "You will restore my health

    immediately and

    to cleanse me of

    any remaining doubt I have

    about your responsibility

    for my pain. You will submit

    to me and follow my orders

    explicitly. I know

    you don't

    like to function in the world of reality,

    but the times

    have changed. My consciousness

    and my God are responsible

    for taking care of me.

    You have overstepped your

    bounds and sunk us into despair.

    Now instead you will comply with

    my every wish -- no

    negotiation, bargaining, or

    fussing about.


    "You have abused my

    grace, my life and purpose

    every time

    you have

    tried to exercise your false

    wisdom

    and control."


    "You are my subconscious --

    Your job is to allow

    me to deal

    with my stresses

    with a mental approach of

    confidence, optimism

    and health, knowing full

    well that it is better for me

    to confront

    my stresses

    head-on, rather

    than repress them into

    the lingering

    and unknown

    from me. Hiding these

    emotions
