Stretching out stored trauma

    Hello,

I’ve had pelvic and piriformis symptoms for 5 years and when I would stretch my piriformis I would get severe never pain down leg and into groin so I became fearful of that stretch. I’ve been fully onboard with TMS within the past 6 months. However, to get over my fear of that stretch I’ve been gently doing the piriformis stretch while reading…up to 30 minutes to an hour a day. I’m not scared up the stretch at this point but ever since starting it my mood has been weird…I’ve had higher energy and I like that but my brain just feels weird. Anger definitely increased. I’m sure some of you are on board with the “trauma is stored in the tissues” theory and wanted to know if anyone had any thoughts here.

also, just to add…I’ve been having like odd body shaking during the night and I’m waking up at weird times with high energy. Can’t take naps anymore even though I’m getting less sleep. Thanks for any advice here.

    What does this entail?

A commitment to some kind of structured program is recommended because unstructured knowledge alone is often not enough to become skilled at lifetime TMS management.

This sounds like anxiety. I had it for a while until my nervous system started calming down.

    Thanks for your response.
    I’m doing breathwork.
    Dancing
    Began exercising again
And trying to allow symptoms as much as possible.
I try to stay busy and enjoy the day as much as possible and try to refrain from watching too much TMS videos

These things are fine, but you need to do the emotional/psychological work Dr. Sarno set before you.
Read the Divided Mind by Dr. Sarno
Get any book by Claire Weekes and follow her directions.
Then you might like to try the Structured Educational Program free at TMSwiki.org (scroll down page) which will help guide you through the work he suggests.
One of my biggest symptoms was these tremors, which were very strong for me. You most likely store your emotional stress and anxiety in your psoas - very common for dancers. Don’t focus on stretching it. Just do your regular activities and allow the tremor release. It’s normal and natural - doing the psychological work will help you understand why you tend to repress emotions and how to let them flow.

@Cactusflower thank you for your advice. I recently bought the Claire Weekes book a few weeks ago but haven’t dove into it yet. I’ll start that soon!

You don't need to do anything stretching, work on your nervous system regulation and your muscles will eventually relax themselves. stretching when your muscles are contracted and tense will do nothing apart from cause that part of your body to shake.
