Resistance to TMS

I am currently reading Mind Your Body by Nicole Sachs. I initially didn't feel like I needed to read it because I read reviews on how it was just like her podcasts and you don't learn anything new. Well, I totally disagree! I am reading about the resistance chapter and this is me in this chapter!

She talks about resistance looking like:
    Exhaustion
    Symptom Imperatives
Looking for "experts" to help you (looking outside yourself)
    Pain Spikes
    Excuses

I knew these were resistance symptoms however, reading them one after another with detailed descriptions and examples was eye opening. I have had every single one of these! In fact, exhaustion showed up the other day after I journaled and I thought I might be coming down with something. Then it happened the next journaling session as well! Clearly, my nervous system was trying to shut me down and sleep so I could stop this work.

Just wanted to share this with you all in case you were struggling with resistance. I'm only about 30% in her book and I highly recommend it. I love that she is relatable but so knowledgeable about TMS.

Hers was one of the first books I bought when I learned about TMS. I haven't read her original book but really liked the new one. I've been taking a break from JournalSpeak but plan to get back into it tonight.

I am rereading this book and the biggest resistance is youtube watching or internet browsing after typically a full day of work, cooking, and then playing and wrestling with an 8-year old who doesn't want the fun to stop aka bedtime delaying (journalspeak about that several times!)...

Sometimes I feel that somehow the society knows about TMS because look at the algorithms designed for these digital products or any other distraction sales (food, drinks, pharmaceuticals, therapies, etc.), every one of them is precisely targeted to our brains, to keep the brains fully occupied with stuff/ongoing stimulations until the brains are totally overwhelmed and exhausted so the brains don't have to look deep to face the difficult emotions. Maybe Nicole's idea of doing a retreat away from daily distractions and forcing one to mingle with others could help too. Or we just have to totally extract ourselves from the daily life somehow for a little bit to do the hard emotional work:).
