    Can sitting on hard surfaces cause permanant damage and pain or is it nonsense?

    Unlikely. Otherwise children would have all sorts of issues from sitting on crappy chairs in school.

    Our ancestors did not even have any chairs and I'm quite sure they didn't have as much chronic pain as we do.

    If they caused permanent damage, the world population would be almost entirely paraplegic. Think also about animals...
