Day 12 Childhood Memories

Today's question to ponder was regarding a favorite childhood memory... sadly, it really was challenging to come up with something.

Although I know there were definitely good times and we had fun mixed in, a lot of those were overshadowed by greater negative intensity if we'd had fun doing something -- almost like if the balance got too far off with happiness, it was quickly remedied with complete upheaval.

And, we didn't go on vacations or take family trips together or anything like that. BUT, if I dig far enough I do remember those fun, silly times of dancing in the kitchen on Saturday mornings, walking by myself in the fields near my house, summer days out in the sun, building forts out of blankets.... I don't remember the feeling of it as much as I remember that it was categorized in my mind as fun.

Then there are some other times that I don't have a memory of really, but the stories have been told enough about how fun it was. Seems I have been an overthinker my whole life, so even during the moments, I would be thinking about what that would mean in the future and making sure everything would be okay. Safety has always been paramount, but never really feeling that either, despite all the efforts!

Sooooo, now is the time for that. Reminding myself that it is okay just to be.
And, maybe dance a little in the kitchen while making dinner tonight. ha ha.

And, how funny... I posted this and realized that I hadn't originally added the Day # to the post and literally my first inclination was to delete the post and repost with the day # -- Helllllllllo perfectionism! Ey yi yi. and the journaling exercise today was about personality traits! ha ha.
Turns out I was able to add the Day # by just editing title, but thought this was such a great in the moment example - at least my awareness is there!

@NewBeginning I'm right there with you! I got my journaling mixed up on one of the days and did the Unsent Letter instead of Personality Trait. When I realized what I did, of course I went back and journaled on ...... "Perfectionism." You just have to laugh sometimes.....
