Why add a link to the wiki to your signature?

The reason is, of course, up to you. Some possible reasons are:

• You are proud of what you've done.
• You believe in the TMS wiki's mission of helping TMSers and raising the profile of TMS and you want to help it to accomplish that mission.

Mentioning the wiki in your forum signature is especially helpful because it shows that

• the wiki isn't just the project of one or two individuals--instead, it is a project that any TMSer can participate in
• what attracts people to contributing to the wiki is a desire to help other TMSers.

Are we allowed to add links to the TMS Wiki?

Yes, we are, because we don't have an advertising and don't sell anything. Dave has confirmed this in an email to Forest. However, we don't want to alienate the people on the forum, so it is good to keep a fairly modest signature. Also, there is no need to hit people over the head with the signature, so you may want to consider only including it some of the time. To do this, you simply uncheck the "Check here to include your profile signature" box that is below the main editing area:

How to add nice links to TMSHelp forum posts

To make a nice link in the TMSHelp forums, you start with the following text:

[url=""][/url]

Then you type the text that you actually want to show up between the[url=""] and the [/url]. The web address that people are sent to when they click the link goes in between the two quotation marks.

For example, if in a TMSHelp forum post, I write,

When you click on "[url="http://WWW.SOMEWEBSITE.COM/"]THE TEXT THAT ACTUALLY SHOWS UP[/url]," you get sent to WWW.SOMEWEBSITE.COM.

then it shows up as

When you click on "THE TEXT THAT ACTUALLY SHOWS UP," you get sent to WWW.SOMEWEBSITE.COM.

Signatures often begin with the poster's name, so HilaryN's name has been borrowed as an example (hopefully, the repetition will help Forest remember how to spell it properly!

Click on the "Profile" link in the upper right-hand corner of every page of the TMSHelp forums:
