Live Peer Support Discussion - Tues October 28

Hi everyone,

Some of our members have found it very helpful to be able to tell their story and ask for feedback from members of our community. It can be nice to hear people's voices and to get immediate and interactive feedback. Last week's discussion was a great example of this. Like last week, tomorrow's call-in discussion group (Tuesday October 28) will be a general, open discussion.

Though there is value to having recorded discussions, I have found that people open up more and have more organic and impactful discussions when the conversation is not recorded. As such, tomorrow's discussion will not be recorded.

I like to think of our discussion groups as similar to a conversation in a coffee shop, where people come together in a casual and relaxed setting to get advice and support from friends. Like in a conversation with friends, though, the advice you get should not replace the advice from medical or mental health professionals. Keeping this in mind, I think there is great value in coming together to share with and support each other.

One thing I have found valuable in running all our call-in events is knowing, generally speaking, who is planning on participating, and what they would like to discuss or share with the rest of the group beforehand. If you are planning on calling in tomorrow to get peer support, please write me either by email (forestfortreesweb@gmail.com) or via private message on this forum to let me know what you would like to bring up during the call tomorrow.

Finally, as you may have seen, I announced that we are starting to rethink the format of the Tuesday night discussion group. I encourage you all to read through and share your thoughts in this thread:

I enjoyed it, too. It's nice to meet new people and hear actual voices. I think the casual "drop-in" format works well.
