Day 1 Feeling Optimistic

I started reading Sarno's book 'Healing Back Pain' a couple of weeks ago, and although I have made some progress I decided to start this structured programme too. I was beginning to loose a little momentum rereading the book and thought it important that I carry on!
Since January 2009 I have had nerve pain in my legs and lower back. I was told that this was due to a bulging disc and wear and tear arthritis. Because I first felt the pain running I haven't ran or exercised vigorously since. However, when reading Sarno's book I deep-down know that this pain is due to TMS. I've always been quite an anxious person (especially in relation to health) and because of this, of course I saw every different 'back expert' under the sun. Even when undergoing various treatments I remember thinking 'how is this doing anything?'
I've also realised that over the last couple of years my supposed back and leg pain has dominated my ENTIRE life to the point of ridiculous!
Honestly, I still have a tiny niggling doubt that I cannot yet shift regarding 'What if I'm the one person whose pain is not down to TMS?' and I'd like this doubt to melt away. I'd love to get back to all the sport I used to play and love.

Welcome. My back pain started in 2010 and I had x-rays and an MRI which showed a possible bulging disc at T8 or T9 (upper back) and had pain over my scapula, lateral chest and some time over the front of my chest. I occasionally had numbness on the other (wrong) side. I knew these symptoms did not make sense and I know the body will usually resolve disc problems on its own but my symptoms did not get better. I spent too much time and money on specialists and treatments without improvement. Getting better. Pain bad on Mondays but this is my most stressful day of the week. Do you feel you have had enough tests and evaluations? If your not sure talk to your doctor and if you have a TMS doctor in your area see them. As for me I was convinced. Good luck and keep working the program. I'm on day thirteen.

    Hi Jill
I hope you don't mind that I re-arranged your "what if" thought for you. "What ifs" can be extremely powerful. Our sub-conscious doesn't seem to recognize the words "what if". Instead, it jumps right to what comes after the "what if" and takes what follows to be a true statement. It took me a long time to fully realize the damage a negative "what if" actually does to me. The plus side is that positive "what if's" actually seem to be even more powerful that the negative ones. Little by little the doubts will melt away, try to be patient and kind to yourself, the positive "what ifs" can definitely be reality!
