  • My Story

im a 56 year old single mum from the uk,my kids are now adults so I haven't got the responsibility of looking after them any more
I work as a Health Care Assistant in a hospital and have been there for 27 years this year

I have had chronic pain for the last 16 years and was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia,I lived with that diagnosis for years and took the meds given to me by my doctor, at some point I began to notice that my pain was effected by stress but I wasn't sure if I was imagining it or not
I knew I was repressing emotions and one day I just thought what if that's causing the pain,I don't know what made me think this as I hadn't heard or read anything about mind body medicine at this time

I had an inkling that your mind is capable of making you ill when under stress and several years ago I had developed asthma quite severely,I was having 4 or 5 attacks a day,I was given inhalers which did help but one day I was out and had forgotten them when I felt an attack coming on,I was really stressed out at that moment so decided to try to calm myself with slow breathing and relaxing my body and it worked,it stopped the attack in its tracks

The change came when the stress was resolved and my asthma disappeared so with this in mind in my new problem of chronic pain I decided to research the link between the mind and body plus chronic pain,I then found the Curable app which led me to DR John Sarno's books

It's taken me a couple of years of joining support groups that ended up not being very helpful to find my way here

I'm hoping this place will be the support I've been looking for and I'm 100% behind the ideas and treatment approaches talked about on this site,I can't wait to get started
