  • My Story

I have been helping TMS patients for more than 20 years. I went to NYC and spent time with Dr Sarno and learned a lot. Over the years I have used my own and patients' experience to help others.

One thing that Sarno emphasizes and that seems generally ignored, is that the patient must see a physician and rule out any organic reasons for their symptoms. I am an expert at this type of diagnosis and would say that at least 30% of my patients do have real physical issues that require treatment. It is not pure TMS in many cases. It is important to make this distinction.

Also, Sarno was an MD who actually did a sham exam on patients. He told me this knowing that as an osteopathic physician my exam was very accurate. He said, They expect an exam but I know just from speaking with them ( he briefly interviewed all prospective patients by phone before accepting them in his practice). He could spot TMS for a mile away so his physical exam was not critical.

Most practitioners in TMS are not physicians. They cannot do this exam. Sarno was opposed to this but people do what they do and only refer to him when it is convenient. He refused to attend most of the TMS meetings and had little regard for the " TMS" world that we have now.

I made a video on this topic on my youtube channel. Harold Goodman, DO is my channel name.
