Making the connections, convinced of the diagnosis, still struggling with pain. Feb 6, 2013

  • My Story

I have been working with two John Sarno books over the past month and am convinced that I have TMS. I have a typical story, been struggling off and on with major pain related to too many hours on a computer, particularly bad without letting up at all in the last 3 years. Somehow I have managed to continue to work but with major setbacks and financial loss. Also typical, I have tried everything to no avail, and have lost all faith in doctors in particular. I have been able to accept the diagnosis although it took a bit of doing as the books don't talk about Repetitive Stress Injury as much as they do low back pain. And I do not have a history of things like headaches, irritable bowel syndrome and the like, but I align with the personality types, the experience of everything that has been focused on my body making my condition worse, the specific pains and muscle areas outlined in the explanation of how TMS works. I am working on the education process everyday. My pain is getting slowly better but no major breakthroughs yet although I feel confident that it will come. I may be having trouble uncovering specific emotions, hard to know how important it is to get at a specific emotional breakthrough, or if I will get better simply by the repetition of acknowledgement of what is actually causing the pain. Any feedback with this specifically or thoughts on what has worked for people that had to stay with it for a bit longer would be a huge help. I am journaling everyday and feel I am aware of many things that are bigger issues, I actually tried a bit of therapy but did not find it helpful so I decided to stick with the TMS resources like this site for now. I have been working with the books for about a month but just started on the educational program on this site yesterday. Thanks.
